Changes
Lots happening here at the moment. It seems as though my summer trip is turning into plans for a longer stay. Goals and ideas that have been brewing for a long time are also materializing in a really exciting way. I have some exciting projects on the go and I just want to give things space to evolve without a time limit.
For the majority of this school year, I struggled a lot with the way my art practice was developing. I want to give myself time to expand on a body of work that is cohesive and authentic to my voice. After attending a very inspiring lecture this week, I felt compelled to get working on a new self-directed project and it is the first time in a long time that I've felt this excited about my personal work.
So without further ado, I'm really happy to announce Secret City.
In addition, Bert and I are working on the new collection for Meilen Collaborative, which we will be launching very soon. The new collection features a lot of new functional ceramic pieces, new original prints, wall paper, stationery and a lot more.
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!
some nice things from around the web:
A very good reminder
Beautiful installation!!
Olafur Eliasson does it again
The creation of colour in 18th century Europe
To make
P.S.
If you are in Toronto, the closing reception for Rock N' Roll 4: A Celebration of Stone Lithography is happening tomorrow night. I have a print up and there is a lot of incredible work to see. It is sure to be a really great time.

in the studio & an update

new batch of cards for Meilen!

wallpaper collaboration with my brother Alan

starting to play around in screenprint - building up layers and transparencies and seeing where I can go with it. Liking where it's going so far, but definitely still a work in progress.
My only exam is this evening and then my semester is done! I couldn't be happier... it's been a tough school year. I'm getting ready to go away for the summer, leaving pretty soon and there are some loose ends to tie up here before departing. I've decided to apply for an arts in residency program for the fall and if that works out, I will take a bit of time off school to challenge myself in a different environment. I'm also getting really excited to focus my energy on work for Meilen Collaborative. We have some exciting work starting to take shape and I look forward to sharing our new collection soon!
Also looking for some good book recommendations before my trip. Would love to hear what you're reading, or favourites from the past!
Wishing you all a good rest of the week,

LITHO

The semester is almost over and I have been busy printing as much as possible before the studios close next week.
Printed some lithographs today for the first time in months and it felt so good. Last semester my stone cracked and split into 3, and I wasn't able to get much out of an image that I was really happy with. It's not exactly the same, which is absolutely fine, and it printed pretty nicely! It will be part of a piece I have in the Rock N' Roll show next week - details below!

For those in Toronto, it's going to be an awesome show!
Hope you're all having a good week!

an update
There's a lot on the go all at once right now... getting ready for a few markets and fairs and soon open studio, which means that I am printing A LOT these days.
Made some necessary realizations and put thoughts into actions and it seems like a huge weight has been lifted... and as a result, I have felt so motivated and creative.
I have two online shops launching soon which I look forward to sharing when the time comes! One is for my ceramic collaboration with Bert, which finally has a name!! I'm so happy to introduce Meilen. Excited to show you what we've been working on!
Pictures from the past week:

did some letterpress printing for Meilen. beginnings.
print in progress for a print exchange:

and my latest excitement is foil stamping.

bad quality photo, but this is a lithography print I did on japanese paper for an exhibition at the JPP:

and lastly, this is the studio in Frankfurt, full of new work and Bert's wall pieces drying before going into the kiln

wishing you all a wonderful weekend!
